Digital Forensic Investigations

Digital Forensics, Legal Knowledge and Data Recovery are the core competencies that any practitioner in the realm of Digital Investigations must master.  BIA’s staff of lawyers, technologists, and computer forensic investigators cumulatively has over fifty years of experience in the fields of technology, computer forensics and the law. Because of that experience, BIA is in a unique position to help corporations, law firms, independent auditors and security professionals discover, collect, investigate and analyze digital facts and information related to litigation, fraud, loss prevention, risk management and other related issues in a highly accurate and cost effective manner.  Because of our advanced expertise in data recovery, we will often recover information that has been deleted, lost or reformatted from any media, even after attempts have been made to destroy that information.  Simply put, BIA’s capabilities are unsurpassed in the electronic discovery realm.

The Process

BIA conducts investigations in strict accordance with all forensic procedures outlined by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and IACIS® to ensure the Integrity, Accuracy and Validity of any evidence obtained.  The Investigatory Process involves creating "Forensically Sound" exact copies of any media to be investigated.  BIA uses state of the art equipment and software to image, transport and investigate any type of electronic media or device that may be required.

Emergency Response Teams

BIA’s Emergency Response Teams (ERT) can usually be onsite within 12 hours anywhere in the domestic United States, and within 24-48 hours worldwide, for rapid response, assessment and collection of digital evidence in both hostile and controlled environments. The ERT is comprised of highly skilled professionals trained and experienced in complex computing environments, criminal and civil forensics investigations, and the law.

Experience

BIA has a wide range of experience in both the public and private sector, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to governmental agencies, from large international law firms to solo practitioners.  BIA’s legal clients include many of the Am Law 100 law firms as well as many large financial, health care and manufacturing corporations.  BIA experts have also assisted certain government regulatory agencies and have trained hundreds of Corporate IT Security personnel in the fields of computer forensics and network security.

Confidentiality & Professionalism

Confidentiality and Professionalism are the keys to our success.  All analysis and consulting work is performed at the highest level of forensic scrutiny. We follow known forensic procedures and use only open and verifiable programming techniques. Our methodologies are transparent - we encourage the Court and opposing sides to dissect our work because we stand behind its admissibility one hundred percent. Because of this philosophy we use NO PROPRIETARY or secret methods or programs when doing our analysis, instead we use our programming skills to build tools and software specifically for the task at hand.

In House Legal Staff

BIA’s experienced in-house legal staff, with years of real-world litigation and electronic discovery experience in complex class actions and corporate and securities litigations, is an essential part of our complete Electronic Discovery solution.  BIA starts with a review of the relevant papers and discussions with the attorneys to understand the case from the inside out so that, when electronic discovery requests are made, the results are fruitful, relevant, and able to withstand judicial scrutiny.  More importantly, without an understanding of both the claims and the technology at issue, an electronic discovery process will likely miss the important information that just may win the case.

BIA’s foundations are built upon over 50 years of combined experience in the technology and legal fields.  BIA was formed in November 2002 as a new entity to combine the strengths of several well-respected lawyers and technologists.  Each of BIA’s principal founders has an extensive history in the legal field, technology, or both.
