The strategic advantage of a full-time core team
Case Study: Intellectual Property
Technology company with one of the largest intellectual property portfolios was involved in multiple state and federal patent infringement litigations. Using TotalDiscovery, BIA collected over one million documents and then culled that data down to just over half a million documents for review. Working with the two law firms involved, BIA’s Attorney Review Team then leveraged BIA’s Coda™ Technology Assisted Review platform and completed the review of over half a million documents within an extremely tight 25 day deadline.
Case Study: Health Care Merger
Large Southeast hospital was the subject of an FTC merger investigation that involved the collection and legal review of more than 530,000 documents with an extremely tight deadline of only 10 days. BIA conducted a privilege review, working closely with counsel, and created a privilege log containing nearly 20,000 entries in less than two weeks. BIA consistently met or exceeded aggressive deadlines, while maintaining rigorous quality control.
Case Study: Antitrust Second Request
In a matter involving a large telecommunications company‘s compliance with a Hart-Scott-Rodino Second Request antitrust premerger investigation, over 2.5 terabytes of electronic data was collected from more than 100 custodians, resulting in millions of documents to review. The project was completed, with the production of over 900,000 electronic records in 75 days.
Case Study: Product Liability Multi-district Litigation
A medical device manufacturer was involved in an MDL action involving thousands of potential claimants, hundreds of custodians, terabytes of data and millions of documents. BIA took over the review process from former counsel and worked with the client’s new counsel on completing the document review process and continuing to respond to new and specific requests throughout the duration of the various MDL trials, saving the client millions of dollars in costs compared to prior review services.

Case Study: Exiting Employee Review
When an employee exits a company, it is essential to identify and preserve critical information that the employee possessed before it is lost forever, and to ensure that no sensitive data walked out of the door with the former employee. Regulatory requirements, litigation holds, intellectual property rights and general corporate knowledge capital are just some areas that can be negatively impacted by the failure to adequately identify and retain exiting employee data. Further, a good exiting employee protocol can also detect and address data breaches, intellectual property or proprietary information theft and other such concerns that can arise at the time of an employee’s exit.
Case Study: Customer Data Theft
A Midwest based transportation company suspected that a former trusted manager, who quit abruptly and opened a competing company nearly immediately, had stolen crucial customer data to aid in creating his new competing company. BIA obtained the former employee’s digital assets, and performed a comprehensive investigation that provided a complete picture of how the former employee had used his former company’s assets to set up his new competing company during work hours and had stolen the former company’s entire Salesforce.com customer database and activities, among other critical data.
Case Study: Confidential Corporate Documents Theft
A Midwest based medical provider was defending a whistler-blower retaliatory termination litigation. During the investigation, BIA was not only able to provide information that assisted in defending the whistle-blower claims, but also discovered that the employee had stolen confidential and protected corporate records to which she had no access.
Case Study: Corporate Fraud
An East Coast based financial services institution suspected a senior executive of submitting false expense reports. Not only did BIA provide irrefutable proof of the executive’s substantial expense account fraud, but was also able to provide proof that the executive routinely spent hours each day surfing work inappropriate websites. Those findings helped the company to summarily dismiss the executive and void a lucrative golden parachute.
